Student Success Solution Unites Low-Code, Case Management, and Predictive Analytics

RESTON, Va., Oct. 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Appian (NASDAQ:APPN), a leading Low-Code and Business Process Management platform provider, today announced that the University of South Florida (USF) has deployed its latest application on Appian, The Digital Transformation Platform™. The new application, called Archivum Insights, is a case management solution uniting student support personnel – including academic advisors, career counselors, financial advisors, mental health professionals, residential life coordinators, and college librarians – in one web and mobile application in order to efficiently assist an individual student’s progress to graduation. Using Appian’s Low-Code development approach, the solution was developed and delivered in just 12 weeks.

Archivum, which is Latin for “a collection of records,” is the name of USF’s Appian-based program of innovation and change management across all three USF System institutions. Archivum Insights has been initially deployed to target students deemed “at-risk” for academic, financial, or other reasons. Incorporating predictive analytics from Civitas Learning with Appian’s unique records data management, process, and collaboration capabilities, the application provides insightful information on individual students. Additionally, it allows support team members to communicate amongst themselves and with the student to rapidly identify problem areas, enact remediation plans, and refer the student to specialists and additional support resources.

Dr. Paul Dosal, vice president for Student Affairs & Student Success at the University of South Florida, says, “We are applying healthcare techniques to student success: diagnose, triage, and provide timely intervention. The next phase will be to apply this same approach across the student body – not just those at-risk – to optimize the USF experience for all 50,000 students. The partnership with Appian has provided USF with a powerful tool that will allow us to scale our outreach.”

Over the past 5 years, USF has made great strides, improving the 6-year graduation rate from 51% to 70%, and eliminating achievement gaps by race, ethnicity and income. The new Appian application will help the university continue its advancements, further demonstrating USF’s institutional commitment to student success.

The new application is the latest example of the success of the Archivum program. In just its first 17 months, Archivum has delivered:

  • Transformation of 8 major business units across the University
  • Cost reductions and operational efficiency gains projected to save $2.3 million over three years
  • Reduction of process cycle times from 2 weeks to 2 days
  • Elimination of paper forms, replaced by anytime/anywhere mobile access to data and processes

“Appian’s combination of Low-Code development speed, enterprise-grade Business Process Management, data management and mobility allows us to push the envelope in delivering transformative experiences for students, faculty, and staff,” said Sidney Fernandes, chief information officer at the University of South Florida. “The Appian platform enables us to truly partner with faculty and staff in an Agile fashion to identify and quickly deliver innovative applications that eliminate waste, improve performance, and enhance the end-user digital experience.”
